Exploring Art Museums

And now for something completely different at Mythography… Here is a list of some of my favorite art museums, organized alphabetically. It’s sort of a virtual Sunday stroll through famous collections of art. Enjoy!

Art Institute of Chicago Museum | The topics to explore at this site includes Collections, Exhibitions, and Programs - so select your favorite area, and begin browsing.

The British Museum | London’s British Museum has a great deal of information about their brilliant works of art online - be sure to use their compass feature to explore these collections.

Carnegie Museum of Art | This museum has a stylish and sophisticated online presence. “Art Collections” will lead you to a page with links to Architecture, Decorative Arts, Paintings, and Sculpture.

Detroit Institute of Art | The DIA site has some fabulous images from their art collection online, so be sure to check out the “Collections” section.

Frick Collection | This magnificent collection of art is well represented online - and if you are a fan of Rococo painting, be sure to visit the Boucher room and/or the Fragonard room.

Guggenheim Museum | Here you will find an array of links, from the Guggenheim Museum in New York, to Guggenheim Bilbao, and the Guggenheim Virtual Museum.

The Hermitage Museum | Located in St Petersburg, Russia, The Hermitage Museum is famous throughout the world for its stunning collection of art works.

J. Paul Getty Museum | The Getty Museum has a stunning web presence, to match their magnificent collection of art.

Kunsthistorisches Museum | Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum features a world class collection of Greek and Roman antiquities.

LACMA | LACMA is short for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and their web site is splendid!

Louvre Museum | This link leads to the official web site for the world renown Musée du Louvre in Paris (here, translated in English).
